DIE KAMELIENDAME DER ISOLA BELLA!

Ein trüber Regen-Tag beginnt im Ticino. Es ist die kurze Frühlings-Regenzeit, sie beginnt Anfang April etwas zu früh, aber ich bin halt jetzt da und so nütze ich den Tag und gehe auf die Suche nach der Kameliendame.

It 's a rainy day in the Ticino in the North of Italy. Normally the sun is shining here the whole day but the short spring raining days are now and to early. I try to do the best with this day and go to look for the Lady "Camellia".

Mit dem Schiff setze ich auf dem Lago Maggiore über auf die Isola Bella!

A ship is going to the Isola Bella in the Lago Maggiore!

Große Balustraden und geschnittene Koniferen empfangen mich abweisend, passend zum Wetter.

This is the entrence - grey like the weather!!!

Die Isola Bella wirkt wie ein Schiff und wenn man auf das Wassertheater zuschreitet, dann in dem Bewußtsein, nie etwas ähnliches gesehen zu haben.

The Isola Bella is like a ship and when I see the water theatre I know that I never before saw something similar.

Auch dieses Fräulein scheint sich zu fragen, warum es ausgerechnet jetzt regnet.

This isn 't the Lady I look for, but she ask herself also why it 's raining just now.

Überall auf der Insel begegnet man den Symbolen der Reinheit, den weißen Pfauen und der Statue des sich aufbäumenden Einhorns, dem Wappentier der Familie Borromeo.

Here are the simbolos of the island and the family Borromeo. The simolos of the purity, the white peacock and the unicorn.

Die Seitenpartien werden flankiert von Citrusgewächsen und Statuen.

Ich verlasse das Wassertheater im Zentrum der Insel und suche weiter - nach der Kameliendame.

I leave the water theatre in the centre of the island and look for the Lady "Camellia".

Die weißen Pfaue laufen mir immer wieder über den Weg, aber sehr gesprächig sind sie nicht.

The white birds are everywhere but they don 't tell me where I can meet the Lady.

Aber diese entzückenden Jungs schauen so beharrlich in die linke Ecke, ob ich da einfach einmal hingehe?

But now I 'm sure that this lovely boys will show me the way.

Ah, ich glaube es nicht, da ist sie. Ein wunderschön gleichmäßig gewachsener Baum, mit Blüten übersät und bereits in einem roten Blütenteppich stehend - voila, die Kameliendame gibt auch bei Regen Audienz.

And here is Lady "Camellia"! Isn 't it a marvellous tree full of blossoms and standing in the red blossom carpet?

Jede einzelne Blüte ist schön für sich und ich werde nicht satt, diesen wunderschönen Baum zu betrachten.

An einigen Riesenrhododendren vorbei gehe ich auf das Schiff zurück und grüble nach, was ich eigentlich über die Kamelie weiß?!

Die Kamelien gehören zu den Theaceae und sind nach dem Jesuitenmissionar G. J. Kamel (latinisiert Camellus) benannt.

Falsch ist die Behauptung, daß man Kamelien nicht umstellen oder drehen darf, weil sie sonst die Knospen abwerfen.

Wer sie das ganze Jahr kühl stellt, mit kalkarmen Wasser das kalkfreie Substrat versorgt, der darf zu Recht hoffen, daß die anspruchsvolle Lady nicht in letzter Minute die sich verfärbenden Blütenknospen abwirft.

Streptocarpus - ein Blatt, ein Blütenmeer

Nun habe ich sie in den Garten gestellt, meine Drehfrucht, da habe ich genügend Platz, sie so abzulichten, daß ich sie Euch gebührend vorstellen kann.

Now I put my Streptocarpus in the garden in order to present it to you.

Die Drehfrucht trägt den botanischen Namen "Streptocarpus", das kommt aus dem griechischen und bedeutet: "streptos" gedreht und "carpos" Frucht.

The botanical name "Streptocarpus" is Greek and it means "streptos" rotated and "carpos" fruit.

Beheimatet ist Streptocarpus im tropischen Regenwald Südafrikas.

The original Streptocarpus grows in the tropical rainforest of South Africa.

Den Namen verdankt die Drehfrucht den länglichen Samenkapseln, die spiralig in sich verdreht angeordnet sind. Beim Reifevorgang entsteht eine Spannung, die sich am Ende entlädt. Durch die entstehende Rotation werden die Samen wie bei den Diskus-Werfern weggeschleudert.

The Streptocarpus plant got its name because of the elongated seedpots, which are arranged twisted like a spiral. As the plant matures a tension is created which is eventually released. Caused by a rotation seeds are dispersed like a discus thrown by a discus thrower.

Ich besitze eine sogenannte "Einblattpflanze". Das bedeutet, daß sie nur einmal ein einziges, großes Blatt ausbildet. Am Ende der Blattmittelrippe sind die Blütenstiele in einer Reihe hintereinander angeordnet.

I have a so-called "one leaf plant". This means, that it forms only one very big leaf throughout its entire growth cycle.

Mich erinnert das Blatt immer an ein Segelschiff, und die Blütenrispen sind natürlich der Mast.

This plant with one leaf always reminds me of a sailing ship with the blossoms as the mast.

Die zarten trichterförmigen Blüten tanzen leicht und duftig in ihren pastelligen Farben über dem großen Blatt. Der Kontrast hat etwas, mir gefällt er gut.

The tender funnel-like blooms dance easily and lightly with colours in pastel above the big leaf. I like this contrast very much.

Streptocarpus möchte einen hellen luftigen Platz, ohne direkte Sonneneinstrahlung. Man gießt sie, wie alle Pflanzen mit behaarten Blättern am besten von unten. Fast alle Gesneriengewächse bevorzugen diese Art der Wässerung.

Streptocarpus prefer a place with light, but not with direct sun. You should water it from the bottom, like all plants with hairy leaves.

Für eine wöchentliche Düngung und das Verhindern von Samenbildung bedankt sich die Drehfrucht mit einer unermüdlichen Blüte. So, und jetzt trage ich sie schnell zurück in den Wintergarten.

It likes fertilizer once a week and it will bloom for a very long time, if it doesn' t get seeds. Ok, and now I will put it back into the winter garden soon.
