In early Dezember 2006 was the last time I said: "I never want a computer in my home." Two month later in February 2007 - one year ago - I had one!
My electric typewriter had just broken down at the moment when I had to type a big contract. A friend did it for me on her computer. For the first time in my life I had a mouse in my hand - and I was infected.
Back at home I told my husband about my experience and he said that I should get a computer for my own;he wanted to give me one as a Christmas present. We didn' t know then that this was to be his last gift to me. Yet, this present is by far the most important one I ever received from my husband.
In February I went to a specialist store with a friend who knows about computers . The seller and my friend spoke a very technical language and I didn' t understand a thing! I was pretty frustrated! At this time I didn' t yet know the term 'pc-blond' but that sure was me already !
Finally I chose a laptop with a very big memory function. I was fascinated by the screensaver which was an animated aquarium picture with very realistic fish. It' s a great computer animation! After a half hour the men finally stopped bombarding me with their special knowledge.
I made use of this little break and asked the salesperson if the fish needed a lot of food and if the desktop gets dirty from algae?
The salesman was very irritated and said to me: " I' m sorry, but I didn' t understand what you mean?" I answered: "Well I must say I' m quite relieved because that' s how I' ve felt for the last half hour."
This was the first rendezvous with my first computer. At home I was confused once again because I didn' t find any instructions. My friend then told me, I could find them in the computer in the storage. This wasn' t really that practical because I didn' t know how to switch it on!
Ok, now I can work a little with my computer. It' s not only a very good tool for me. Very rapidly, I found friends and garden freaks behind my 'aquarium' friends in a garden forum. One of the nice gardeners Andrea told me about the bloggers and said this might be something for me. With her help, I was able to open my garden blog 9 month ago.
I' m amazed every day about what a wonderful communication tool a blog is. It takes me out into the whole world - and the whole world comes in to me! During the past 9 months I' ve found a lot of nice contacts which are very important to me. I am always astonished about this interesting, loving little world.
Meanwhile, some of you are so close to me that I would never want to miss the interchange with you. Don' t wonder about my photographs, they are all gifts of you and these are the simbols for what I have received from you all recently. I wanted to show you these lovely things.
The wonderful poppy-picture is an original photograph from Mark from England (thegreenfingeredphotographer). I' m sorry Mark, it wasn' t possible for me to do your picture better. I' m so happy to have won it!
This gorgeous needled pouch with the warm colors and the fantastic different kinds of embroidery and a lovely card (above the pouch) was a surprice from Verobirdie. I was so overwhelmed when I opened the envelope.
Andrea visited me one day with the lovely home-made quilted heart filled with lavander. She brought cake as well - and drank a cup of coffee with me. We had a nice talk. The picture at the top is shows a lavander collection from Monika (countryliving); she had her 100. post and made a raffle of these nice things.
I'm showing you all these things that stand for many nice contacts which I have found in the last 9 month. On the other hand, some of the things that have greatly enriched my life since then are hard to show - the valuable ideas, stimulation, advice, wishes and mailed dialogues. My husband gave me a wonderful gift just one year ago as though he wanted to take care of me and make sure that ideas now come to me in another way. I want to say 'thank you' with my post, for the time you have given to me, for your inspirations in your comments and I hope it will be as lively and intense in the future. Thank you all!!
