I love the time when the columbine is blooming. In my garden it' s the time from May to the end of June. Then, I sit down in my special seat and the special performance of Swan Lake starts up.
The first act is beginning in the castle park of the Prince. The ladies and gentlemen are all dressed in white, pink and blue costumes. The ladies are wearing frilled or rounded little skirts and the gentlemen wear pants with short or long spurs.
The stage set changes: The disappointed Prince is going off to hunt, once again he didn' t find the right Princess to marry among his guests. He discovers a lake and the Swan Lake ballet begins.....
The ballet dancers are wearing special, pale colors.
The trouble-maker near the sorcerer are well-defined by other colors.
There are approximately 70 columbine species in total. Ranunculaceaen, which are growing nearly all over of the northern hemisphere. The little black seeds are able to continually produce more colors of the bastard flowers.
The botanical name "Aquilegia" is from the Latin: "aquam legere" and means: "the water collector". Another possibility is "aquila" the eagle, named for the curved talon at the end of the blossom.
The German synonyms for the columbine are "eagle flower", "elf glove", harlequin flower", "fool' s hat ". Traditionally, the columbine was used as medicine for stomach, liver and gallblader disorders.
